Once happy with the level of correction, the Lamborghini was then given a cleanse with a pre-wax cleanser to remove any unwanted oils from the bodywork prior to the wax being applied. This was then buffed off using a clean microfibre cloth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

For the wax stage I chose Swissvax Best Of Show, as this provides a good barrier from the elements. Two coats of BOS were applied to the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera leaving a good curing time between each layer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The wheels were treated to Swissvax Autobahn Wheel wax to preserve and protect from brake dust and temperature build up. All the other smaller parts of the car were re-dressed including all the plastics and rubber seals using Autoglym plastic conditioner.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The vehicle was then given a final wipe down and a quick chance for last minute photos. Many thanks to the owner and his staff for supplying me with coffee throughout the day.

PROTECTION & CORRECTION DETAIL

This superb Arancio Borealis orange Superleggera was booked in for the Ultimate-Detail, comprising of correction and protection. Upon arrival, the vehicle was given a quick visual inspection followed by the usual 2 bucket method clean. The vehicle was pre-soaked with a citrus degreaser and left to dwell before washing, using the usual armoury of detailing brushes and wash mitts. This Superleggera had plenty of driving miles and had been known to be used on several occasions around track, so had collected a few unwanted bonded bits to the bodywork.

After the first clean, the vehicle was then clayed to remove all the nasties. The chosen clay for this job was Dodo Juice Supernatural clay with Autoglym Rapid detailer as the lube. The clay picked up alot of dirt and did its job so well, I had to use another clay as the vehicle was so dirty especially the front lower half and side air vents.

Once clayed, the Superleggera was washed again ready for the next stage. After drying with a clean microfibre drying towel, the Lamborghini was then prepped up for the correction stage.

Firstly, the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was taped up to protect the edges and glass areas. The panels were then read using the Paint Detective PD8 gauge, giving me an approximation of the paint thickness. These readings were noted down and gave consistent healthy readings ranging from 240 microns to 262 microns for the main body parts and a rather healthy 400 microns on the long sloping front. No signs of thin paint on this example and minimal cob webbing/swirl marks, possibly thanks to the owners careful cleaning. Due to the fact this car is used on a regular basis and taken around track, it did suffer from a few stones chips, mainly on the front lower half.

Each body panel was then inspected using the LED inspection torch to discover if and want correction was needed. Nothing major to report and only light imperfections on the surface were visible. Due to the cob webbing discovered, the chosen polish to deal with this was 3M Perfect -it III Fast Cut Plus on a 3M Perfect-it III compounding green head , as it is fast acting with minimal sling, to produce a quality finish, sometimes the last stage product. However, not in this detail, there were more stages to come. This process took a few passes on a few of the panels, but after each panel had been corrected, a check over using the LED torchlight to double check all micro marring had been removed.
